Easter is this coming Lord’s Day!  As a child, I used to look forward to the Easter ham and family fun.  As a young father, I used to love getting the Easter baskets ready for the boys, and the Easter egg hunts – great memories!

Students get nervous heading into our annual Speech Meet; they work very hard at memorizing, and at the same time know they will be up on that big stage all by themselves.  The two-day event is one of the most wonderful things that happens here.  That might be hard to keep in mind if you’re in the process of pushing a son or daughter to finish preparing!  Yet I’d like to invite you to look at it from a sanctuary perspective.

Parents, I hope you will take the time to read this update…it is important and could impact the children of your friends in a very beneficial way.

Our mission is such. There is great temptation to sort of sink back into the shadows timidly, but we need to keep fighting the good fight. We have the Lord on our side and the mission and vision of Geneva Academy is a worthy cause, one worth fighting for with great conviction.

On Monday, January 4th, we started school again this morning, with prayer.  So did Congress!  You may have heard about the controversy…Democratic Representative Cleaver, who is a Methodist pastor, offered a prayer which ended in the following words:

Greetings, Geneva families.  The National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) conducts many studies of how American students are doing in school.  Results from the 2019 Math and Reading Assessments have been published.  There are three skill levels: Advanced, Proficient, and Basic.  “Proficient” for the NAEP means a student has “demonstrated competency over challenging subject matter.”  “Basic” means a student only has partial mastery.

If you need to refresh your soul, I suggest you open your Bible and turn to one of the gospels, and listen to Christ, and watch him heal.  If you ask the Spirit to bless your reading and to quiet your anxieties, a different world will open up, the real world.

Happy New Year! The Lord’s Day (November 29th), the First Sunday of Advent, began a new liturgical year. Customarily, Advent is when we begin looking forward to our coming celebration of the remembrance of Christ’s “Advent” – or coming – into the world.  We begin looking forward to an already accomplished historical fact. It can get very complicated if you think about it too much. But I digress.
